Working with Grids - Ancient Egyptian Art

This is another Art lesson, for Y13s, that came together really well for transfer of visual information and the use of grids and a lesson in Art History and Ancient Art systems and culture. As the project was coming to a close students wondered out loud that they were doing what artisans did 1,000s of years ago in Ancient Egypt. Terrific!

These are not the best grids to be true to the originals (see video).

The class began by watching the video, discussion, and introduction to the project assigned them: printouts of gods and goddesses and drawing larger grids on larger paper; transferring visual information from one to the other, then researching colors and symbolic meanings before painting. Finally, using gold paint topped off the end results.
